Unraveling the Heart

Artistry That Weaves Emotion into Every Tapestry

Nina Hons

(formerly Nina Kedzierska)

Nina was born, raised and studied art in Gdansk, Poland. As a Polish Art Society (ZPAP) member she began art exhibits in 1986 which included

Poland, Norway, and the United States. Her art has adorned the spaces of many privateand commercial spaces around the world. Her specialty is tapestry; joining naturalmaterials like wood, sisal, and metal without the assistance of any mechanical apparatus. Her handmade creative displays show the intricate beauties of nature.

As Debra Kravitz wrote in Art Matters about her 2004 exhibit at PII Gallery inPhiladelphia; “Nina’s work can be shocking or even overwhelming. Her heavy tapestriesare handwoven in three dimensional textures to depict surreal dream landscapes andextensions extruding from the surfaces are woven back in with additional built-out structures and metal pieces.”

About My Home Studio in Rozyny

by Nina Hons ((formerly Nina Kedzierska)

In 1982, I began making tapestries in my home studio in Rozyny, near Gdansk, after moving into my dream home with my former husband, Andrzrej Kedzierski, and 5 year old daughter, Dominika.. This historical house was built in 1784 from large beam construction, which had so such character and artistic charm. One large room provided workspace for my full time tapestry productions. Another room provided space for exhibits with guest artists and visitors. Exhibits were held every few months and especially during the Karnaval Season. Exhibits were filled with art from many locally famous artists of Gdansk including, Czestaw Tumielewicz, Henryk Madrawski, Janina Karczewska-Konieczna, Andrzej Trzaska, Marek Wrobel, Marek Model, Jan Misiek, Danuta Joppek, Wilga Badowska, and Dominika Szelagowska. The exhibits were always attended by Professor Stanislaw Radwanski, Rector of the Gdansk Academy of Fine Arts. Also attending the exhibits were art critics Adam Pawlak and Jacek Kotlica.

The Gallery closed in 2001 shortly after moving to the United States. The house was sold in 2019.
