Nina Hons unveils a tapestry installation at PII Gallery

In November 2025, Nina Hons presented a new body of work in a solo exhibit at Pii Gallery in Philadelphia. The exhibition featured handwoven, self-dyed sisal tapestries that continued her exploration of texture, materiality, and found objects. Each piece combined natural fibers with metal, hand-stitched details and repurposed fragments—arranged to engage both wall and pedestal formats.

Guests at Nina Hon’s November 2025 opening at Pii Gallery moved through the room with an uncommon quiet—voices softened, steps measured—as if the works themselves asked for a different pace. Many paused close to the pieces, drawn by the invitation to inspect. Handwoven sisal, soft dyes, and found materials invite close inspection. In that hush, textures speak and weathered grasses and reclaimed elements reveal memory, rhythm, and resilience. This quiet exchange, material to viewer, offers a restorative

The works reflected Nina’s ongoing engagement with process: the slow, tactile rhythm of dyeing and weaving; the responsive decisions made while integrating disparate materials; and a sensitivity to the balance between structure and improvisation. Color palettes ranged from muted earth tones to richer, seasonally resonant hues, punctuated by metallics and occasional bright accents that draw the eye along woven lines and layered surfaces.

At Pii Gallery, known for presenting Eastern European and American contemporary practices, Nina’s pieces entered a conversation about the poetics of material reuse. Works intended for pedestals emphasized sculptural volume and shadow; wall tapestries emphasized rhythm, negative space, and the narrative possibilities of woven marks.

Portrait Dedication to Band Leader Ritchie Blackmore

In fall 2025, Nina painted and dedicated a portrait of Blackmores Night band leader Ritchie Blackmore, rendering his neo‑medieval aura in layered texture and light. Blackmore's Night, formed in 1997 by Ritchie Blackmore and Candice Night, is a British‑American neo‑medieval folk‑rock band. Blackmore and Night are the two constant members, and the group has released eleven studio albums. The BN Band toured the Eastern U.S. in November 2025. While Nina has concentrated on creating art with natural fibers and mixed media in recent years , this painting dedication demonstrates how prolific she is as an artist.
